I stopped using Feisty for a while because the network just wouldn't transfer large bits of data without just aborting connections, even across different wireless routers. Finally, that problem appears to be fixed in the updates to Gutsy Beta this week.

So, with a fresh install going, I setup svk and minicpan so I have most of CPAN with me while I'm on the train. Just for giggles, I installed Squid, Privoxy and Tor.

Time to reinstall Komodo Edit 4.2 and see what else I'm missing for the long train trip worth of development.

After a drive crash torched my XP/Ubuntu install about 5 months ago, I haven't spent much time looking at Ubuntu Feisty. I just finished installing Feisty back on the laptop. I must say, it's much better than Badger.

The fonts render better. The wireless card worked out of the gate, which is a first. The network and other admin panels are much better. What an improvement. Way to go Ubuntu.

Edgy Eft Beta

|

Just for the sake of doing it, I upgraded my Ubuntu Dapper install on my laptop to Edgy Eft Beta 1. No problems really so far, and my wireless D-Link DWL-G650 card finally works. I found out that the trick to getting NetworkManager to work was to clean out the /etc/network/interfaces file complete (except for lo stuffs.

I also apparently have a neighbor with w WAP. :-)

Ubuntu Breezy Desktop

|

Since Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy Badger came out today, I decided to wipe my tinkered-up (technical term) 5.02 Hoary Hedgehog install and do a fresh install of Breezy. As usual, the only thing I had to fight was the wireless pcmcia card.

Here's screenshot of my desktop after I got a not-so-brown wallpaper and tweaked the window style:
