I Miss Drumming

| | Comments (0)

As my co-workers can testify to, my feet and hands never stop drumming on the desk between coding sessions, especially when the MP3 player is running. I really need to get back into it, but I suck so bad now that it's depressing compared to high school. I see it in my head. I can made my hands do it. But try it on the drumset, and all hell breaks loose. :-/

Samsung U3 Update

Once I decided on a bitrate vs. size that I could tolerate on this player, I've started ripping CDs and filling this little monster. Once of the cool features this player has is that I can alter the play speed, so I can play drums along with songs at half speed if I have to. Kinda cool. I've got about 10 CDs or so @ 96kbps, which works out to about 35MB per CD.

That bit rate sounds low compared to the VBR/320/nothing less than 128 mantra, but honestly, for most types of music, you just don't hear the difference on this kind of player. With a 2GB limit, it's all about how many songs I can cram on it before I regret not getting the 4GB version. :-)

Tijm Bray over at ongoing mentioned the old classic Dave Brubeck tune Take Five. I never heard that he didn't write it, or even play the solo. Guess I was asleep that day in college. :-)

There's a version of Take Five in the wild in which the melody is still played in 5/4b but the core tune is in 4/4. To top that off, the 4/4 part of the tune is in Reggae style. I wish I could find that recording. It's been a long time since I've heard it myself. I do have the Take Five CD though. :-)

Stand Up: Me: 1, RIAA: 0

When I heard that Dave Matthews Band had a new CD out called "Stand Up" was out, I decided to head over the the evil Best Buy and snag a copy. Before I went to the register, I flipped the disc over and saw this [paraphrased]: "This disc does not conform to published CD standards and may not play in some CD players". AKA, "This disc is copy protected you evil customer".

So I decided to Stand Up and put the disc back and left. I'm almost inclined to send an email to DMB if there is such and address.

Hell Yeah!

The only thing I wanted to see other than the KISS reunion and Dave Mathews.

Van Halen Ends Feud with Former Singer, Sets Tour

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - One of pop music's messiest feuds has come to an end with the return of vocalist Sammy Hagar to rock band Van Halen after an eight-year absence, the veteran group said on Friday.

Additionally, Van Halen will return to the road this summer for the first time in nearly six years, launching a tour of indoor North American arenas in Greensboro, North Carolina on June 11.

Referer Fun

I can't wait to dig into the logs at home tonight and see why this is in my referers list:

www.riaa.com

Wonder if their "smart" web seeker has mistakin my album listings for pirate MP3s?

Looks like some ass nuggets in Latin America spamming US sites. Why in the hell would people do that, unless the RIAA and the like are outsourcing to hide this junk.
